2014 Tackle Poverty with the Polamalus – Thank you Pittsburgh!!!!!
A huge “Thank You” from the FOCUS family to all who attended last night’s Tackle Poverty with the Polamalus event. It would not have been possible without the host parish and community at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church Pittsburgh, and the committee, volunteers, and sponsors! By your efforts, FOCUS is able to continue to serve the poor and homeless in Pittsburgh and throughout North America!
FOCUS Pittsburgh opened its doors in 2011 in the city’s Hill District. FOCUS Pittsburgh donates hundreds of backpacks each week to children in the Hill District and Southside Public Schools.
We offer an 8-week professional development class that teaches non-technical job skills to promote employment and success in the workplace. In partnership with the Pittsburgh Orthodox Clergy Brotherhood, we distribute bag lunches on Saturdays to homeless and needy persons in our neighborhood.
We have an emergency food bank, and a [frequency] free community dinner.
In 2014 we opened a free medical and behavioral health clinic for people who are uninsured or who don’t qualify for medical assistance.
